Identity card (Namibia)

The National Identity Card in Namibia ( English National Identity Card ) is the official identity document of Namibia . It corresponds roughly to the identity card . The legal basis is regulated in the "Namibia Regulation Amendment Act, No. 4 from 1993". The card is an official photo ID for the Namibian inland, but cannot be used for travel purposes.

The identity card is issued to every Namibian citizen and every person who is legally and permanently resident in Namibian territory free of charge upon personal application. For this purpose, proof of citizenship or legal residence must be provided, for example by means of a birth certificate or permanent residence permit. Each person is recommended to apply for an identity card and carry, but is in Namibia no ID required .

The ID card is issued once by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Immigration from the age of 14 and is valid indefinitely.

The ID is available in two different colors, but the information does not differ. A light blue ID card is issued for all Namibian citizens , a pink version with a light blue middle third is issued for all other persons who are legally and permanently in Namibia, but are not citizens.

The ID is written in English .
