The Ministry of Internal Affairs, Immigration and Security ( MHAISS ; English Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety & Security ) is the Ministry of Interior and Security of Namibia . It was merged with the Ministry of Security in 2020 .

It was headed by Minister Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana from December 4, 2012 to February 1, 2018 , before Frans Kapofi took over the office on February 8, 2018 .

From 1990 to 2005 it was known as the Ministry of Home Affairs . In 1995, the ministry was incorporated into the portfolio of the President , then Sam Nujoma , for 6 months .

In addition to the main office of the Ministry in Windhoek, there are regional offices that carry out some tasks and customer services (including applying for ID cards ). These are located in the respective capitals of the 13 regions .

The duties of the ministry include all sovereign activities in the area of ​​population supply and immigration monitoring. This includes, for example, the issuing of official papers such as birth certificates , passports and the issuing of immigration permits such as visas and permanent residence permits as well as naturalization .

Immigration and Population Services

The directorate is the largest in the ministry and is further divided into Immigration and Border Control , Alliens Control, Citizenship and Passport, and Population Services .

Refugee administration

The “Refugee Administration” directorate deals with refugees and asylum seekers .
