The budget of the Republic of Namibia is the public budget of Namibia . The budget is determined by both the National Assembly and the National Council after an open discussion . The budget year starts on April 1st of each year.

A supplementary budget can be determined at any time by the National Assembly together with the National Council. In 2016/17, an ongoing budget was cut for the first time in the first half of the year.

Annual budgets

  • 2010/11: The budget is generally calculated, planned and approved from September to March. For the financial year 2010/2011, however, an ongoing discussion was pending in the National Assembly at the beginning of June 2010, which ended on June 16 with the approval of the budget. It was expected to have revenues of N $ 22.5405422 billion and a budget deficit of N $ 6.350966 billion.
  • 2011/12: The first draft budget for the 2011/12 financial year was presented on March 9, 2011 by Minister of Finance Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila .
  • 2012/13: The budget was presented on February 29, 2012. The motto of the financial year is "Do more with less". The expenditures are throttled compared to the previous financial year, since this increased the national debt through numerous special expenditures for the TIPEEEG program. Total income of 35.4 billion Namibian dollars and total expenditures of 40.2 billion Namibian dollars are expected. The budget deficit is expected to be 4.4%.
  • 2013/14: The budget for the 2013/14 financial year is 45.3 billion Namibian dollars. This means an increase of 20.4 percent compared to the previous budget. 82 percent are operating expenses, while 18 percent are used for investments. In addition to the budget, 2.3 billion Namibia dollars are being raised for interest payments. The budget was presented on February 26, 2013. The motto of the financial year is "Economic growth, optimizing development goals - together achieving more with less effort".
  • 2014/15: The budget for the financial year 2014/15 was presented on February 19, 2014. The total budget increased by a good 25 percent compared to the previous year.
  • 2015/16: The budget for the 2015/16 financial year was presented on March 31, 2015. Total expenditure and income are increasing, while the deficit has decreased to around 5.7 percent.
  • 2016/17: The 2016/17 budget was cut in October 2016 after the Namibian economy fell into recession due to global market factors and the ongoing drought.
  • 2017/18: The 2017/18 budget was presented on March 8, 2017. He is supposed to continue the consolidation of public finances. The budget deficit should be able to handle four percent (compared to 6.4 percent in 2016/17) and the debt ratio should remain unchanged at 42 percent.
  • 2018/19: The 2018/19 budget was presented on March 7, 2018. He continues the condensation path. Total spending is falling, investments are rising.
  • 2019/20: The 2019/20 budget was presented on March 27, 2019. It aims to further consolidate government spending while reducing new indebtedness and stimulating the economy.
