The Ministry of Mines and Energy ( MME ; English Ministry of Mines and Energy ), the mining - and the Department of Energy of Namibia .

The Ministry is headed by Minister Tom Alweendo , who is supported by Vice Minister Kornelia Shilunga .

The ministry plays a particularly important role in the Namibian economy due to the paramount role played by Namibian mining . The ministry is divided into five directorates. Among other things, mining licenses are issued and the energy supply is ensured by the state-owned Namibia Power Corporation . The Geological Survey directorate conducts geological research mainly in the Namib desert . This also includes the National Geosciences Museum .
