The Iecava |
The Iecava [ ˈiɛʦava ] (German: Eckau ; Russian Иецава ) is a river in Latvia .
The Iecava rises from several sources south of Aizkraukle and flows through wooded lowlands to the west. At Skaistkalne , the distance between Iecava and Mēmele is only two kilometers. The confluence with the Lielupe is largely through the 1.5 km long "Devil's Ditch" (Lat .: velna grāvi ), which was built at the end of the 19th century .
The river is mainly fed by melt water. Characteristic are low water levels in summer and flooding in spring. For this reason, extensive work was carried out on the river bed.
Of the approximately 400 tributaries (streams, ditches, etc.), the Misa is the largest just before the mouth.
