Ignacio Czeguhn

Ignacio Czeguhn (born September 29, 1966 in San Sebastián ) is a legal scholar and professor of civil law, German and European and comparative legal history at the Free University of Berlin .

Career

Czeguhn studied law at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg from 1988 to 1993 . After the first state examination in law, he completed his legal traineeship in Würzburg and passed the second state examination in 1995. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Civil and Commercial Law at the University of Würzburg until 1997. Since 1997 he has been a research assistant at the chair for civil law, European legal history and civil procedural law in Würzburg as well as head of the specialist language course “Spanish legal language”. In 2001 he received his doctorate at the Law Faculty of Würzburg on the subject of The Castilian Supreme Jurisdiction 1250 to 1520 , for which he received the Prize of the United Scholarship and Prize Foundation of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg. Since 2004 he has been a lecturer at the University of Granada . In 2006 he completed his habilitation under Jürgen Weitzel in the subjects of civil law, German and European legal and constitutional history, and comparative legal history at the University of Würzburg. He then took over a professorship at the University of Konstanz and at the Free University of Berlin. Since 2009 he has been a professor at the Free University of Berlin.

Czeguhn conducts research at the Topoi Cluster of Excellence .

Research focus

Czeguhn researches mainly in legal history ( European supreme jurisdiction from the High Middle Ages to the present day , European judicial history in the 19th century , colonial jurisdiction ) as well as consumer private law.

Memberships

  • Since 2007 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Gothia Würzburg
  • Since 2010, Czeguhn has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Society for Research on Imperial Chamber Courts.
  • Since 2011 he has been a corresponding member of the Andalusian Academy of Sciences in the legal history department.
  • Since 2012 he has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Jewish Research at Rey Juan Carlos University and Tel Aviv University .
  • In 2018 Czeguhn was elected to the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
