Ignatius Geitel

Ignatius Geitel (born November 15, 1913 in Bochum , North Rhine-Westphalia , † January 22, 1985 ibid) was a German painter .

life and work

Geitel studied in Trier, where he became a master student of Heinrich Dieckmann in 1932 , who in turn was a student of Jan Thorn Prikker . Since 1936 he worked as a freelance artist. As a result of his participation in an exhibition with his picture The Child with Lung Disease , a summons came before the National Socialist Art Commission in Düsseldorf. After military service and imprisonment, he was involved in exhibitions of the Bochumer Künstlerbund and the artist group Junge westen in Recklinghausen from 1950 . In 1952 he left the Bochumer Künstlerbund and founded the “Hellweg” artists' association. Until his death in 1985 he was involved in various art projects and from 1968 exhibited regularly in his own house.
