Ignatz Lichtenstein (born April 9, 1825 , † October 16, 1908 , also Isaac Lichtenstein ) was a Hungarian Orthodox rabbi who "as the reigning rabbi defended the conversion to Christianity on leaflets". Although he refused to be baptized all his life , he finally gave up the office of rabbi in 1892. In 1894 a biography of him appeared in the missionary magazine of the Episcopal Methodist Church, The Gospel in All Lands . Messianic Jews later mentioned him as a 19th century example of a turn towards "Jewish believers in Jesus".
