from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ignazio Cerio (* 1840 in Abruzzo ; † 1921 in Capri ) was an Italian naturalist and doctor.

Ignazio Cerio came to Capri in 1868 as a military doctor, where he became a well-known personality on the island. There he collected and systematized natural history finds. He conducted some of his research together with his friend Friedrich Alfred Krupp . On Capri, his natural history collection is now open to the public ( Centro Caprense Ignazio Cerio in Palazzo Cerio) and also contains a library with literature on Capri. This exhibition was founded by one of his sons, the writer Edwin Cerio (1875–1960).

Ignazio Cerio was married to Elizabeth Grimmer from England; the couple had six children. His sons Arturo (* 1860) and Giorgio (* 1865) were also in contact with Krupp and belonged with him to the "Congrega di Fra Felice" society.
