Igor Vukic

Igor Vukić (born January 26, 1966 in Zagreb ) is a Croatian journalist, political scientist and publicist. He became known to the Croatian public for his research on the Jasenovac concentration camp . He claims that there was no mass murder there and that Jasenovac was a labor camp.

Life

Igor Vukić was born in Zagreb in 1968 into a family of Serbian origin. His family comes from Donja Gradina , a village directly at the mouth of the Una and the Save , which together form the border with Croatia. His father Nedeljko was imprisoned with his family in the Jasenovac concentration camp.

Vukić attended the primary school in Pakračka Poljana and the high school in Kutina . In 1992 he graduated from the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb. Vukić worked as a journalist for left-wing Croatian newspapers such as Jutarnji list and Novi list . He writes columns for the Croatian magazine Hrvatski tjednik.

His book "Jasenovac Labor Camp" from 2018 is the result of discussions between historians in Croatia. Historians disputed to what extent and with what care Vukić documented his sources in the book, the neutrality in the selection of the source evidence, and whether he even considered recent research results and newly accessible sources. In addition, he had taken over literally entire passages from earlier texts, but retained the respective numbering of the footnotes without adapting them to the new text, i.e. H. he worked with little care. In addition to this negligence, z. B. alleged that he only gave the signature of the role of the respective microfilm, which may document over 1000 pages, but not the exact number of pages.
