The Ikarut River is a 37 km long tributary of the Hebron Fjord in the north of Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The Ikarut River forms the drain of Hebron Lake , which is about 400  m high . It leaves the lake not far from its northeastern end and initially flows 6 kilometers in a north-northeast direction. At river kilometer 33.8 there is a 6.1 m high vertical waterfall that prevents fish from migrating into the upstream river system. The rest of the route of the Ikarut River turns east and finally flows into Freytag Inlet , a small side bay on the north bank of the Hebron Fjord. The Ikarut River drains an area of 474 km². About 2 km above the mouth, the Ikarut River takes on a larger tributary coming from the north.

Fish fauna

The arctic char occurs in the Ikarut River . The river system is considered a spawning water for the fish species.
