Lejzor Ilja Szrajbman (born April 15, 1907 in Warsaw , † 1943 in the Majdanek concentration camp or in the Warsaw ghetto ) was a Polish swimmer .

Life

Ilja Szrajbman was a member of the Polish army . In the 1930s he became multiple Polish champions in various swimming disciplines over various distances. He also played water polo . In 1936 he started at the Olympic Games in Berlin in the relay over 4 x 200 meters in freestyle . However, the team was disqualified for early starts .

Before the outbreak of World War II , Szrajbman was preparing for a planned Polish version of Tarzan , directed by the renowned Juliusz Gardan .

The circumstances of Ilya Szrajbman's death are unclear. Some sources say that he was killed in the Warsaw ghetto, while other sources state that he died in the Majdanek concentration camp.
