Illbient

Illbient is a music style that is assigned to electronic music and arises from the ambient . It originated in Brooklyn in the early 1990s .

The term was first used by DJ Spooky . Illbient is a suitcase word from the music term ambient and the adjective ill ( eng. For "sick"). Ill has a positive connotation here, in German comparable to "cool", "oblique" or "krass".

Essence

Illbient contains elements of electronic music as well as rock , hip-hop , drum and bass and dub . With the help of cuts and samples from these elements, electronic devices, sometimes using classical instruments, create sound structures that are usually relatively dark.

Representative of the Illbient

DJ Spooky is considered a pioneer and also the most successful artist of this genre (especially the album "Songs of a Dead Dreamer"). Other trend-setting interpreters of this style of music are for example: Squarepusher , DJ Olive , Rob Swift , Mouse on Mars , Boards of Canada , Console , Byzar and the founder of the WordSound label Sketch Fernando, Jr. (known as Specter or The III Saint ).
