Illersteg accident

The collapse of a footbridge in the Iller, in which six people died and around 200 were injured, is called the Illersteg accident . On September 29, 1946, American soldiers held a festival in the Illerstadion in Kempten for children who had been affected by the Second World War and the post - war period . Previously, coupons for sweets and rides had been distributed to schools. About 25,000 people streamed into the Illerstadion that day. At around 3.45 p.m., when around 800 people were on the Illersteg , it collapsed. As a result, six people died and about 200 were injured.
