Wladislaw Markowitsch Illitsch-Switytsch

Vladislav Illich-Svitych , Ukrainian Ілліч-Світич Владислав Маркович , Russian Владислав Маркович Иллич-Свитыч , (* 1934 in Kiev , † 1966 in Moscow ) was a Ukrainian -sowjetischer linguist .

Life

Illitsch-Svitych was of Ukrainian descent. He later went to the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Moscow , where he did research in the field of comparative linguistics and in the early 1960s - simultaneously with but initially independently of Aharon Dolgopolsky - revived the idea of a nostratic macro family , which the Danish linguist Holger Pedersen had Formulated at the beginning of the 20th century. Illitsch-Switytsch's untimely death at the age of 32 prevented the completion of his comprehensive Comparative Dictionary of Nostratic Languages , which was later completed by Dolgopolsky.
