Illyrian Shepherd Dog

The Illyrian Shepherd Dog ( Ilirski ovčar ) was a breed of dog found in former Yugoslavia . It was recognized by the FCI in 1939 . In 1957 the breed was renamed Šarplaninac , and in 1968 the Karst Sheepdog was separated as a separate breed.

In the breed standard of the Karst Sheepdog, the history of the breed is related to the migration of the Illyrians , to whom the ancestors of these dogs are likely to be.
