Memorial for the Wiesn assassination victims
The memorial for the Wiesn attack victims is a memorial in Munich for the 13 victims of the Oktoberfest attack on September 26, 1980. It was created by the Bavarian sculptor Friedrich Koller (* 1931) and on the anniversary of the attack on September 18 1981, opened to the public. The location is the location of the explosion on the northern edge of the Theresienwiese at the main entrance of the Oktoberfest .
Koller originally created a bronze stele with the inscription: "In memory of the victims of the bomb attack of September 26, 1980". At the request of the bereaved in 1987, the names of the victims were engraved.
In 2008 the facility was redesigned. A natural stone wall erected behind the stele and a flower bed were replaced by a 2.70 meter high, semicircular steel wall. With its piercings, it symbolizes the injuries caused by the attack. The stele itself was placed in the center of a circle inscribed in the floor covering with a diameter of 6.10 meters.
