Ilona Volk

Ilona Volk (born March 17, 1963 in Willich ) is a German politician from Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and currently mayor of Schifferstadt . She is the first green mayor of a municipality in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .

Life

Ilona Volk grew up in Willich on the Lower Rhine, where she completed an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk. In 1990 she moved to Schifferstadt, where she worked as a bakery saleswoman. The people are divorced and have two children.

politics

For the Greens, Volk was elected to the city council of Schifferstadt in 1999 and was the parliamentary group leader of their party. From 2004 to 2009 she was an alderman and headed the youth and social affairs division; she is also a member of the district council. From 2009 she was group chairman again.

On April 10, 2011 she won the runoff election for mayor with 63.4% against Bruno Dell ( CDU ). She has been in office since November 2011.
