Ilse Edelmann

Ilse Edelmann (born May 17, 1905 in Berlin ; † June 4, 2009 ) was a German social democratic politician.

Career

Edelmann came from a Jewish family. Her father was a victim of the Holocaust during the Nazi era . In addition to her professional activity as a teacher and later vice rector, Edelmann began to be politically active when she joined the SPD in 1946 .

In 1946 she was a founding member and later for many years chairwoman of the women's group of the SPD, from which the Working Group of Social Democratic Women (AsF) emerged in 1972 . From 1956 to 1975 she was a member of the council of Bergisch Gladbach and after her resignation she was active as a competent citizen for almost 20 years.

Edelmann was a member of the Arbeiterwohlfahrt and a founding member of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kulturkreis. In 1980 she received the Federal Cross of Merit for her services to the common good.
