Ilse Huber (* 1948 or 1949 in Lower Austria ) is an Austrian lawyer and judge who became known in particular for her work as a procedural judge in the Ibiza investigative committee.

Life and education

Huber's parents and her grandmother, who was born in 1899, were teachers. Originally she wanted to become a seamstress or a teacher, but her grandmother in particular encouraged her to study. Of the subjects offered in 1967, she decided to study law “because I didn't know what else to study”, but also because of the prospect of being financially independent as quickly as possible. According to her own statement, she completed her studies with little enthusiasm, but her ambition was challenged by the fact that she was told that as a woman she had no chances anyway, especially not in court.

Professional career

After completing her studies, she entered the then usual court year with the intention of becoming a judge herself. At the time, the proportion of women in the judiciary was 1.5 to 2%. She met the strict selection criteria and was appointed judge in 1974. After holding positions at Lower Austrian district courts , the St. Pölten Regional Court and the Vienna Higher Regional Court , she came to the Supreme Court (OGH) in 1993 , where she worked in the field of civil law . From April 1, 2012 until her retirement at the end of 2014, she also served there as Vice President.

The committee of inquiry set up to clear up the Ibiza affair in January 2020 into the alleged buyability of the turquoise-blue federal government (Ibiza committee of inquiry) unanimously elected Ilse Huber as procedural judge . As this she supports the committee chairman Wolfgang Sobotka and is responsible, among other things, for the initial questioning of the respondents and the preparation of the final report of the committee of inquiry. In June 2020, she resigned from her role as procedural judge.
