Ilsur Raisowitsch Metschin ( Russian Ильсур Раисович Метшин; born April 24, 1969 in Nizhnekamsk , Russian Soviet Federal Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a Russian- Tatar politician and since November 2005 mayor of Kazan , the capital of the Russian republic of Tatarstan .

Career

Mechin graduated from the Kazan State University Faculty of Law in 1991 . In 1999 he obtained a further academic degree as an aspirant at the chair for history and law at the same university .

Metschin began his professional career in 1993 in the administration of the Soviet District of Kazan, where he was head of the Housing Privatization Agency until 1995. Between 1995 and 1997 he was already head of the Soviet District Administration Office. After a short-term job in Vakhitovsk Raion (one of 7 districts of Kazan), Metschin switched to the administrative apparatus of the Nizhnekamsk province in 1998 and was appointed mayor of the city of the same name.

From 2000 to 2004 Mechin was a member of the State Council of the 2nd convocation of the Republic of Tatarstan.

On November 17, 2005, Mechin was officially appointed mayor and three months later chairman of the Kazan City Executive Committee. In 2010 and 2015 he was re-elected as mayor.

In March 2006, Mechin was elected to the Kazan City Duma and at the same time became the head of the city's municipal structure. In September of the same year Metschin joined the political council of the local representation of the party " United Russia ". Half a year later he got a new position as president of the Eurasian regional department of the organization “United Cities and Towns”.

From September 2015 to May 2017, Metschin was president of the Russian football club Rubin Kazan .

Private

Metschin is married and has four children (three sons and one daughter). His older brother, Ajdar, is the mayor of Nizhnekamsk.
