Imino acids

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1-pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid, an N-substituted imino acid.

In chemistry, an imino acid describes a group of substances whose representatives have an imine and a carboxylate group .

properties

Imino acids have a similar structure to amino acids . The enzyme proline dehydrogenase ( PRODH / POX ) oxidizes proline to imino acid ( S ) -Δ 1 -pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid (P5C). Imino acids can be absorbed in the intestine by the permease hPAT1 ( human proton-coupled amino acid transporter 1 , synonym SLC36A1 ).

The amino acids proline and hydroxyproline have a secondary amine and were formerly known as imino acids, but the name is out of date. In the past, imido acids were also referred to as imino acids.
