Immanuel Friedrich Otto
Immanuel Friedrich Otto (born January 22, 1791 in Stuttgart , † May 2, 1875 in Nürtingen ) was a German textile industrialist.
The son of a Stuttgart businessman learned his father's profession. His family came from an Ulm family. One of his ancestors was the doctor Johann Sebastian Otto (1634–1694), who moved to Stuttgart around 1650.
Immanuel Friedrich Otto started as an apprentice in the Turkish red dyeing factory Palm & Varnbühler in Berg near Stuttgart. The company also began spinning cotton shortly afterwards. After completing his apprenticeship, Otto quickly rose to become an authorized signatory. In 1813 he left the company to do military service. In 1814 he came to Nürtingen. In 1812 the company Authenrieth, Frank & Cie. Bought a plot of land from the city and obtained a concession to expand a hydropower plant and a permit to build a cotton mill. On December 29, 1814, Immanuel Friedrich Otto acquired the unfinished building. He started a yarn business that initially became his main activity. After the factory was completed, he started a Turkish red dye factory in 1815. In 1816 one of the first cotton spinning mills in Württemberg went into operation.
The Nürtingen pharmacist Heinrich Siegle received the suggestion from Otto'sche Färberei to found a paint factory. His son Gustav Siegle has been running the paint factory G. Siegle & Co. since 1863. When it was brought into the Badische Anilin- und Soda-Fabrik ( BASF ), Gustav Siegle's company gained international recognition.
In October 1817 Immanuel Friedrich Otto married Friederike Regine Rommel. Their children were Heinrich Otto (1820–1906), who was transferred to the factory in 1844, the later merchant Karl (1818–1905), to whom the yarn trade was transferred, the pharmacist Hermann Ernst Otto (1838–1925), Sophie Wilhelmine Justine Otto ( ∞1st pharmacist Carl Friedrich Beck; ∞2. His employee Friedrich Mörike † 1908).
