Immisession

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Immisitzung is a session in the Cologne Carnival in the style of a cabaret number revue. The roughly three-hour program satirically gets to the bottom of the hustle and bustle of society and the carnival from the perspective of the newcomers. The self-declared aim of the event is to promote the integration of migrants in the Cologne Carnival. The motto of the immisession is: "Every Jeck is from somewhere else."

history

The Immisitzung was founded in the 2010 carnival session by a collective of actors, musicians and producers with the aim of holding a carnival session with a diverse cultural background.

In the vernacular of Cologne, the name Imi stands for people who were not born in Cologne, i.e. who only imitate Cologne residents. The second M in "Immisession" refers to "Immigrants". Imis from Upper Franconia are represented in the ensemble as well as in the audience of the Immisitzung, as are immigrants from Turkey and elsewhere.

In 2014, the meeting was performed on 19 dates in the Stollwerck community center in Cologne in front of around 6,000 spectators and excerpts were broadcast on the radio stations Funkhaus Europa and WDR 5.

concept

The concept of the Immisitzung is a revue-like sequence of skits, songs, dance choreographies and presentations.

Unlike traditional carnival sessions, there is no in Immisitzung Elferrat , no Büttenredner no guest appearances by artists. Rather, the revue has its own ensemble of actors, singers, musicians, puppeteers and dancers.

The sketches deal with social and political issues that often take up the everyday life of non-Germans and non-Cologne residents in Cologne.

Self-composed songs and rewritten cover versions of well-known songs, which are sometimes also part of the show's theater scenes, are an integral part of the carnival session. The musicians and singers pick up musical influences from different countries.

Between the sketches and songs, two puppets depicting the ghosts of deceased Cologne cathedral builders - a German, a French - comment on what is happening on the stage as well as social events.

The actors speak German, but often refer to their mother tongues in skits. Some dialogues are also spoken in the Cologne dialect .

ensemble

The Immi session is performed by an ensemble of around 20 actors, singers, musicians, dancers and puppeteers from eight different countries. The Immisitzung was directed in 2010 and 2011 by the Cologne director and actress Selda Akhan, and since 2012 by the Cologne choreographer and director Joschi Vogel. In 2019, director and actor Franco Melis directed. The actress Katja Solange Wiesner was the chairwoman of the meeting until 2013. As Immi-Mymmi I, Myriam Chebabi has been the current president of the Immi session since 2014.
