Imperial Lighthouse Service

The Imperial Lighthouse Service was a lighthouse agency of the British Empire .

In addition to Trinity House (responsible for England , Wales , Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands ), the Northern Lighthouse Board (responsible for Scotland and the Isle of Man ) and the Commissioners of Irish Lights (responsible for the island of Ireland ), the Imperial Lighthouse Service was fourth Institution responsible for the construction, maintenance and supply of shipping signs in the British colonies. He was subordinate to the Board of Trade .

After the collapse of the British Empire, many shipping signs were adopted by the newly independent states and the Imperial Lighthouse Service was dissolved in the 1970s.
