imprint (union)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In the press about - the Swiss journalist inn s" based in Friborg is the largest organization of media professionals of Switzerland and Liechtenstein .

It is both a professional association and an organization that is subject to collective bargaining agreements; in the latter function, it negotiates collective labor agreements and social plans for its members. The association does not belong to the trade union umbrella organizations such as the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions or Travail Suisse .

The association has almost 5000 members from all media professions. Most of them are professional journalists.

structure

According to the statutes , the organization has the legal form of an association. The governing bodies are the assembly of delegates, the board of directors and the management. The delegates are nominated for the delegates assembly by the sections.

13 regional sections are affiliated. There is also a regional linguistic interest section for professional photographers and two working groups for freelance media professionals. The sections are, for their part, legally independent associations and linked to imprint through their statutes. The association members are members of both a section and the imprint.

Objectives

The objectives are set out in the statutes and the mission statement. As an actor in civil society, the association defends journalistic independence , freedom of expression and other interests of its members and the journalistic industry vis-à-vis employers, politics, business and civil society at national and international level.

Press card and professional register

Together with two other journalist organizations ( Syndikat Schweizer Medienschaffender and syndicom ) the association maintains a professional register for journalists and issues the "BR press card" based on this. Journalists in the BR commit themselves to the “Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Journalists”, which forms the basis of the statements of the Swiss Press Council.

history

The story goes back to the Swiss Press Association , which was founded in 1883, but which also included publishers and editors , and was renamed the Association of the Swiss Press (VSP) in 1893 .

In 1900 the Swiss Association of Newspaper Publishers split off. In 1976, the club was in organization of Swiss journalists (VSJ), in December 1992, the Swiss Union of Journalists (SVJ) and 2003 in "imprint - the Swiss journalist inn en" renamed.

Conflict over the collective labor agreement of the French-speaking Swiss press

In 2013, discussions about renegotiating the collective labor agreement of the French-speaking Swiss press between impressum and the French-speaking publishers' association Médias Suisses led to internal disputes over the question of whether the new collective labor agreement should be signed or not. A large majority of the delegates, especially those of the affected French-speaking Swiss sections, spoke out in favor of the signing at the extraordinary assembly of delegates. This led to strong protests by some exponents from the particularly affected section impressum Vaud, who defended themselves against the democratic but from their point of view not legitimized decision of the assembly of delegates.
