Imran Farooq

Imran Farooq (born June 4, 1960 in Karachi ; † September 16, 2010 in London ) was a founding member of the Muttahida Qaumi movement .

Life

Farooq had been in exile since 1991 on charges of involvement in murder and other serious crimes. In 1999 he applied for asylum in Great Britain . In 2008 he retired from active politics.

Farooq was stabbed near his home in London on September 16, 2010 and died on the scene. After his death, the MQM declared ten days of mourning in Karachi. Schools and shops closed and public transport also stopped.

On December 9, 2010, British police arrested a 34-year-old suspect. Two more men are still being sought.
