In articulo mortis "at the moment of death", "in the face of death" ( Latin artículus "turning point", mors "death") is a Latin expression that is used in ecclesiastical and theological context for actions and decisions in the face of imminent death . So there is the dispensing or reception of sacraments such as baptism or the sacrament of penance with the food for the journey in articulo mortis , as well as the taking of religious vows or entering into a marriage in the face of death. In periculo mortis “in danger of death” (Latin periculum “danger”) has a similar meaning .

Before the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council , imminent death was a prerequisite for receiving the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick .
