Ioan Vieru (athlete)

Ioan Lucian Vieru (born January 4, 1979 ) is a former Romanian athlete who specialized in 400 meters .

The sprinter won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in 2002 . At the European Championships in 2002 , the World Indoor Championships in 2003 and the World Championships in 2003 , he could not reach the final.

In 2004 Vieru tested positive for stanozolol and was banned for two years because of doping . After his suspension he took part in the European Championships in 2006 and the World Championships in 2007 without reaching the finals. At the 2009 European Indoor Championships , he won bronze.

His personal best was 45.60 seconds, which he achieved in July 2006 in Longeville-lès-Metz .
