Peaks and elevations

Pfaffenkogel

The 553  m above sea level. A. The highest peak of the Malleiten above sea level offers a beautiful view over the Steinfeld. At the highest point is the Finkenhaus, a former inn, towards which the hiking trails were oriented. The Schubert observation tower was once located here. Today the house is privately owned and there is no longer any guest business (as in the 2nd former guest house of the Fischauer Berge, the Gasthaus zum Kürassier ). Entering the Finkenhaus and the property belonging to it is no longer permitted today, driving is prohibited on the access road. Most of the signposts have been removed and the markings scratched off.

Andreasstein

A pre-summit of the Pfaffenkogel with a height of 536  m lies within the bend of the above-mentioned driveway and can only be reached without a path.

Pottery floor

Between Marchgraben and Pfaffenkogel is the fairly flat Töpferboden with the Töpferwiese. The meadow is named after the frequent ceramic finds. The most important cave here is the Hofmannshöhle (1864/8) discovered by Ignaz Hofmann and named after him . An insider tip on the western edge of the Töpferboden are the Linsbauerfelsen and the Hanslstein, two points with a beautiful view. The Gypsy Cave ( 1864/21 ) is located in the Marchgraben .

Steinereben

Extensive plateau east of the Fiedlerwiese. The Teufelsmühlstein and the through cave Steinerner Stadl (1864/18) are located here. On the edge of the plateau there are a large number of caves, such as B. the Muidwurmhöhle.

geology

The Malleiten is largely formed by Trias limes and dolomites.

history

In the area of the Malleiten there was a prehistoric hilltop settlement that was associated with the extraction and processing of copper, among other things. Numerous finds (e.g. pottery shards and vessels), some of which are kept in the Wiener Neustädter Stadtmuseum , bear witness to this. 14 burial mounds from the Hallstatt period (approx. 800–600 BC), in which cremation was common, have already been explored.

Roman stone monuments from the Malleiten are in the castles Ebreichsdorf and Hernstein .
