Indication (clock)

Wrist watch with various indications

In clocks, an indication (synonym indicator ) is a display that shows the time or a complication .

properties

The indication of the time usually extends over the entire dial , the hands are attached centrally on the white bar. If the second hand is also in the middle, this is called the central second . On the other hand, with small watches, the displays of complications such as small seconds (a separate indication for the second hand), calendar date , stopped time or alarm time are mostly in subdivided areas of the dial. These displays are small, partly milled and engine-turned areas with their own lettering to display the respective additional function. The display is mostly done with the help of a pointer or with a recess in the dial with printed, rotating discs underneath (for example with the date or the moon phase display ). A retrograde display has a pointer which, after reaching the maximum value of the respective indication, runs back to a basic position or jumps back.
