Indira Nath

Indira Nath (born January 14, 1938 ) is an Indian immunologist . She made scientific contributions to immune tolerance and nerve damage in leprosy and its pathogen, Mycobacterium Leprae . Nath is a specialist in the field of pathology , immunology and infectious diseases .

Career

Nath studied medicine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). After graduating, she worked on a Nuffield Fellowship with John Turk and RJW Rees in London.

Since she did not want to contribute to the emigration of well-educated people from India , she returned to India to the AIIMS, where she studied immunological aspects of leprosy with Gursaran Talwar.

research

In her research, Nath deals, among other things, with the immune response and nerve damage in the event of an infection with Mycobacterium Leprae at the cellular level, as well as with markers to determine the viability of M. leprae . Nath has published more than 120 articles in specialist journals. She has been awarded numerous prizes.
