Indra Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Indra Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 122). It was first performed on January 16, 1853 in the Volksgarten in Vienna .

Remarks

The Indra Quadrille was composed of motifs from the opera L'Esclave de Camoëns (Eng. Title: Indra, the snake girl ) by Friedrich von Flotow . However, the quadrille could not last long and soon disappeared in the archives. Allegedly, Flotow personally asked for the Strauss work to be dismissed. The opera itself suffered the same fate in the long run. She too was denied the big breakthrough.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 11 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
