Satanella Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Satanella Quadrille is a quadrille by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 123). It was performed for the first time on January 26, 1853 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

The quadrille commemorates the great success of the ballet Satanella or Die Metamorphosen , which was performed at that time in the Vienna Kärntnertheater with the participation of the dancer Marie Taglioni. With this work he also set a musical monument to the latter. With the Satanella polka (op. 124) and the Marie Taglioni polka (op. 173) he created further pieces of music in homage to this dancer.

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 6 minutes and 21 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
