Peñoles is a Mexican mining company headquartered in Mexico City . It belongs to the holding Grupo BAL ( English Bal Group ) and is according to its own information the largest private exporter in Mexico. Peñoles is listed in the Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC) on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores . The subsidiary Fresnillo plc was founded in 2008 and has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since 2011.

In December 2008, two striking miners were shot dead in one of the company's mines . With the strike, the miners protested the detention of union leaders Carlos Pavon Campos (public relations) and Juan Linares Montufar (security chief), who were accused of embezzling a $ 55 million miners' fund. The promotion of several mines stopped after the miners' union called for it.
