economy
For centuries, silver, copper, lead and zinc ores have been mined in the surrounding mines; Fresnillo itself is characterized by mining. But livestock breeding (cattle, sheep, goats, pigs) also plays an important role in the life of the community; In addition, the cultivation of grain (maize, wheat, barley) and the cultivation of fruits and vegetables (beans, chillies, tomatoes, prickly pears, peaches, pears, figs, walnuts) are important. Small traders, craftsmen and service providers of all kinds have settled in the city itself.
history
At the time of the conquest by the Spaniards (conquista) , the areas in northern New Spain were only sparsely populated; There were no permanent houses, stone temples or even urban structures. The city of Fresnillo was founded in 1554 at the instigation of the then Viceroy Luis de Velasco by Francisco de Ibarra to secure the "Silver Road" between Mexico City and the mines of the north; the original place name was Ojo de Aguas del Fresnillo ("spring at the ash trees").
Attractions
The rapidly developing city has several imposing baroque and neo-baroque churches . It also has an obelisk- shaped monument built in 1832 and a theater from the second half of the 19th century.

One of the most important pilgrimage sites in Mexico is located in the mining town of Plateros, approx. 5 km to the north-east - the baby Jesus of Atocha (Niño de Atocha) is venerated here.
