The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is a phablet from Samsung Electronics and the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 . The Note 4 was presented to the public on September 3, 2014 at IFA Berlin and was launched in Germany on October 17, 2014. The successor to the device is the Note 7 range , as the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 did not appear in Europe and the designation Note 6 was skipped to adapt the version to the current S range and avoid confusion.
Innovations
General
The Galaxy Note 4 brings various innovations compared to its predecessor. Its Super AMOLED display has a Wide Quad HD resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels with an improved pixel density of 515 ppi and the S-Pen can distinguish twice as many pressure levels (2048).
Compared to the previous model, there is no air gesture sensor , hygrometer or thermometer . The Note 4 only has a USB 2.0 port, while the previous model has a backward compatible USB 3.0 port.
The position determination functionality has been expanded. As one of the first Samsung flagships, this smartphone now also has Beidou satellite navigation technology in addition to GPS , A-GPS and GLONASS .
The home button is slightly higher than that of the older Galaxy Note and S series devices to make it easier to hit the button with your finger and to improve the functionality of the fingerprint scanner .
Cameras
The main camera on the back of the device has a resolution of 16 megapixels and an optical image stabilizer . As with the previous model, 4K videos can be recorded and Full HD videos can optionally be recorded at 60 frames per second, but without the lossless digital zoom, which goes up to x2.0 with 1080p videos. The sensor of the main camera is a Sony IMX240, a CMOS image sensor with a size of 1 ⁄ 2.6 ″.
New is the possibility of 1440p video recordings with 2560 × 1440 pixels (WQHD) with 30 frames per second .
The front camera has been optimized for self-portraits and offers a resolution of 3.7 megapixels (1440p) for photos and videos. The camera's field of view has been expanded. The camera app offers a 120-degree panoramic selfie mode.
Multi-window mode
Several applications can be displayed on the screen at the same time.
A direct transition of an application between the flexible split screen view and window view is possible.
battery pack
With 3220 mAh, the battery has a 20 mAh larger capacity than that of the previous model and - as with all previous models in the Galaxy Note series - can be replaced by the user. This makes it the last model in the Galaxy Note series with a replaceable battery.
It is the first flagship phone from Samsung with fast charging technology. Charging capacities of up to 15 watts can be achieved. The device is compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 chargers. With the quick charge function, the battery can be charged from zero to fifty percent in about thirty minutes.
The Galaxy Note 4, like the Galaxy S5 , is equipped with an "ultra-energy-saving mode" that reduces the device's energy requirements to a minimum. In addition, only one of the four processor cores is put into operation while the ultra-energy-saving mode is activated.
