The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 ( spelled Samsung Galaxy Note9 ) is a phablet designed by Samsung Electronics and introduced on August 9, 2018 as the successor to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 .

It has been available in stores since August 24, 2018.

history

Many of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9's features and specs were leaked ahead of its official release, including the S-Pen. On June 27, 2018, Samsung sent out invitations to the next "Unpacked" event with a golden S-Pen image. Just like on this teaser, it was announced on August 9, 2018.

Specifications

hardware

screen

The Note 9 has a 6.4-inch, 1440-pixel Super AMOLED display with an aspect ratio of 18.5: 9. The design on the front is otherwise similar to the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and uses an "Infinity Display" from Samsung.

Processors and memory

The Note 9 has a Snapdragon 845 SoC from Qualcomm in the USA and China or an Exynos 9810 SoC from Samsung outside the USA and China. It has 128 or 512 GB of storage. The 128 GB model has 6 GB of RAM while the 512 GB model has 8 GB of RAM. All models also have a microSD card slot that can support a microSD card with up to 512 gigabytes of data, which means that the memory on 512 GB models can be expanded up to 1 terabyte .

A water-carbon heat pipe was also installed (called "Water Cooling System" according to Samsung), which makes it possible to play CPU-heavy games for a long time without overheating.

Design, connections and sound

The Note 9 is IP68 waterproof and dustproof and has a USB-C port that supports Samsung-DeX without a dock. The device also has a 3.5mm headphone jack and AKG stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

As with the S9 & S9 +, the fingerprint sensor has been moved below the camera setup.

Battery and power supply

The Note 9's battery has been significantly upgraded compared to previous Samsung Galaxy phones. It has a 4000 mAh battery, which until then was only available in the Active versions of the S7 and S8. The Note 9 has a wireless fast charging function based on the Qi standard.

As with the predecessor, charging capacities of up to 15 watts can be achieved with Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 via cable .

Camera system

The camera system is a dual camera setup with a two-aperture lens (f / 1.5 and f / 2.4) similar to that of the S9 +, but the setup is rotated horizontally rather than vertically, similar to the Note 8 setup.

Video recordings are possible at 2160p (4K) with a smooth 60 frames per second , slow motion videos at 1080p (Full HD) at 240 frames per second and briefly at 720p (HD) at 960 frames per second.

S-Pen

The biggest change to the Note 9 is the S-Pen . The S-Pen now has Bluetooth capabilities, including the ability to press (hold, single or double) the button on the S-Pen to perform certain tasks, such as: B. to move forward or backward in presentations or photos and to operate third-party support for apps via an SDK. The S-Pen now has a “battery” (essentially a super capacitor ) that is charged when the pen is docked in the cell phone's silo.

software

The Note 9 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo and Samsung Experience 9.5 as the screen surface. The camera software has been improved and now contains an intelligent camera function for recognizing scenes. For example, it shows the user whether someone has closed their eyes the moment before the photo is taken.
