Samsung Galaxy ( spelled SAMSUNG Galaxy since 2015, previously spelled Samsung GALAXY ) is a brand under which the South Korean manufacturer Samsung Electronics bundles its smartphones , phablets , tablets , wearables and notebooks . This is an overview of all products published under this brand.

designation

Since August 2011, the products of the Galaxy series from Samsung have been categorized as follows, whereby the names are constantly being developed for marketing reasons. The device classes differ in terms of equipment, e.g. B. size of the display or the built-in processors, and are i. d. R. Prefixes to indicate the generation as a number:

Lite Lite (suffix) somewhat refreshed devices of the previous generation
LTE LTE (suffix) Devices with a mobile 4G data receiver
M. Magical sufficient equipment for little money
N grade High-end devices with an extra large display and the S-Pen stylus
O On Middle class devices especially for the Indian market
R. Royal Upper class devices (discontinued)
S. Super smart High-end devices
W. Wonder High-quality mid-range devices (discontinued)
X XCover Particularly robust (ruggedized) devices
Y Young Entry-level devices for young users (discontinued)
Z k. A. Flip and Fold flip phones

The terms created in this way (e.g. Samsung Galaxy S10 = Samsung Galaxy - Super Smart - 10th Generation) are used for marketing purposes and are therefore not clear. Several models can be hidden behind each model. B. in the equipment for memory, cell phone part or color. There are also local differences because Samsung z. B. for the North American market different processors are installed than for Europe.

operating system

The standard operating system for the Samsung Galaxy devices is Android . For this purpose, the Galaxy devices have their own user interface, which was Touchwiz until 2008, Samsung Experience from the introduction of Android 7.0 and One UI since 2018. As part of the presentation of the Galaxy Note 20, Samsung announced that all devices from the Samsung Galaxy S10 will receive three instead of the previous two Android updates, the update guarantee exists for the Galaxy Note, S, Z and A series . Other operating systems exist with the Samsung Galaxy Books with Microsoft Windows or possibly with very simple telephones, the Smartwatches like the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active are based on the own operating system Tizen OS.
