The Samsung Galaxy Fold ( code name : Winner ) is the first foldable smartphone from Samsung Electronics . It is a hybrid of a smartphone and tablet computer and was first introduced on February 20, 2019. The software is based on the Android operating system from Google . Its market launch was postponed "indefinitely" after testers found damage to the foldable display after a period of use of one or a few days. The introductory price of the smartphone was $ 2000. Since September 18, 2019, the smartphone has been available in Germany at a price of 2,100 euros.

Specifications

Processor & Graphics

A Samsung Exynos 9820 is used in the German version of the Samsung Galaxy Fold . It is an octa-core processor and has two Samsung Mongoose Performance cores that clock at up to 2.7 GHz, two ARM Cortex- A75 performance cores with up to 2.3 GHz and four ARM Cortex A55 energy-saving cores with up to 1.9 GHz. This is considered to be one of the strongest processors of 2019 and can prevail in the single core test against the Qualmconn Snapdragon 855; In the multicore test, both processors are about the same. The Exynos 9820 has an integrated graphics unit; the ARM Mali-G 76 MP12. It has twelve clusters, each cluster should be twice as fast as that of a Mali-G72. It is currently one of the fastest graphics units for Android smartphones. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 is installed in the USA, Canada, China and Japan .

Storage

The Galaxy Fold has 12 gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of internal device memory, of which around 460.5 gigabytes can be used.

criticism

In the aftermath of the technical disaster, Samsung was also criticized for its crisis management: Samsung had a report from the iFixit portal that described the device as "fragile" and almost irreparable . The attempt to take action against critical voices is reminiscent of the Streisand effect , which often only leads to more attention.
