particularities

The Samsung Galaxy Note is a smartphone from Samsung with the Android operating system . It is characterized by a screen (13.5 cm diagonal) unusually large for smartphones (at that time) and is therefore also included in the phablet category . Another special feature is the alternative operating option using an inductive pen ("S Pen"). The successor is the Samsung Galaxy Note II .

description

The Galaxy Note was presented at IFA 2011. It is offered in white and black. The dimensions are 146.85 × 82.95 × 9.65 millimeters, the weight is 178 grams.

As usual with smartphones, the device is operated via a capacitive display . This has a diagonal of 13.5 cm (5.3 inches) with a resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels , the point density is 284 ppi. Display technology is the Super AMOLED technology developed by Samsung ; it should bring about a higher color fidelity while at the same time reducing the display thickness.

Samsung has installed a dual-core processor with a clock rate of 1.4 gigahertz. The internal memory is 16 or 32 gigabytes in size. The battery has a capacity of 2500 mAh. The device has been available in Germany since October 24, 2011, although the official market launch did not take place until October 27, 2011 in London.

The device contains an 8-megapixel camera, which can be used to record not only photos but also 1080p HD videos with a maximum of 30 fps . It also has a 2-megapixel camera on the front for video telephony .

On March 28, 2012, Samsung announced that it had sold five million Galaxy Note devices worldwide.

particularities

As a special feature, the device offers, in addition to manual operation, an integrated inductive pen called S Pen as well as software for character recognition and for creating handwritten notes or graphics. This makes it the first smartphone to use Wacom technology for pen digitization. In addition to the display, which is relatively large for smartphones, it is the pen input with which Samsung  wants to position the device as a solution for the business sector - with the features of a mobile phone and tablet computer .

operating system

The Samsung Galaxy Note is delivered with the Android operating system version 2.3.5. With the firmware version (N7000XXKJ4) the operating system has been updated to 2.3.6. At the end of 2011, firmware N7000XXKL7 was made available that contains fewer errors and offers higher performance.

The update to Android 4 has been in circulation since May 10, 2012 and will gradually be made available for all device versions. Since July 11, 2012 there has also been an update to Android 4.0.4 in Germany; this solves problems with the battery life and adds additional functions to the device. The PopUp-Play, originally introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S3 , is now available on the Galaxy Note with Android 4.0.4. In addition, the premium suite with new functions has also been imported. According to Samsung Sweden, there will be an update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean in quarter 4. Actually there should be an Android 4.1.1 update from Samsung, but Samsung wants to update the device to Android 4.1.2 right away. There is already a Jelly Bean 4.1.1 leak that can be flashed via Odin. The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update includes the Samsung Galaxy S3 “Lockscreen”, the Nature UX surface, Airview , the S-Memo function is being replaced, although it is included in the software but should not longer be used, instead of users use S-Note, Samsung Galaxy S3 / Note II Bootanimation , multi-window , can be performed in two applications simultaneously etc.

In September 2012, Samsung published an update for the Galaxy Note, which retrofits the Touchwiz Nature UI user interface and the connection to the SCloud storage service , which were initially introduced during the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III .

Galaxy Note 10.1

The Galaxy Note 10.1 was first presented as a preliminary model at the Mobile World Congress in February 2012 . Only in August 2012 did it go on sale with some hardware and software changes. The Galaxy Note 10.1 has the essential properties of the Galaxy Note II. With a screen diagonal of 10.1 inches, however, it is a "real" tablet .

With the four-core processor " Exynos 4412" with 1.4 GHz clock frequency, it has the same processor as the Samsung Galaxy S III smartphone . It also has 2 GB of RAM. There are three versions, one with LTE, one with UMTS (3g) and one with WiFi only. The display resolution is 1280 × 800 pixels, which is comparatively low with a diagonal of 25.65 cm. The tablet also has a 5- megapixel camera on the back, a front camera (1.9 megapixels) and a 7000 mAh lithium-ion battery . It is delivered with the Google operating system Android 4.0 . The 16 or 32 GB flash memory can be expanded by up to 64 GB using a microSD memory card .
