The Industrie-Pensions-Verein eV (IPV) was founded in Berlin in 1925 by the predecessors of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the Federation of German Employers' Associations (BDA). To this day, the BDI and the BDA are closely related to the IPA. This has around 400,000 members.

The economic misery after the First World War made it necessary to set up a private pension fund for entrepreneurs and managerial staff, because until then they had been largely excluded from statutory pension insurance . Contracts have been concluded with selected life insurance companies that guarantee the members of the IPV special conditions to this day (discounts and offers of help). Since January 2007 the IPV has expanded the range of offers for its members to include health insurance.

The association has had its own academy since October 2009. The focus of teaching is on private and company pension schemes and health care.

The Association and Company Service (VUS) of the IPV is available to the associations and their companies on site for questions of supply.

Today, the association is back in Berlin , from 1949 to June 30, 2009 Varel was its headquarters. The aim of the change of location was, among other things, to create a stronger link with the central associations of German business and the leaders of industry and politics through a local presence.

The subsidiary IPM Industrie-Pensions-Management GmbH (IPM GmbH) was founded in 2017. IPM GmbH is a neutral service provider in the field of company pension schemes .
