The Industrieverband Agrar e. V. (IVA) based in Frankfurt am Main is the amalgamation of 51 German-based industrial companies in the agricultural / agrochemical sector .

history

The association emerged in 1988 from the merger of the Plant Protection Industry Association with three specialist associations in the fertilizer industry . The member companies deal with products and services in the agricultural sector in the following areas:

The focus of work is on conveying information that affects the industries represented. As a lobby group , the Agricultural Industry Association tries to highlight the positive aspects of plant protection.

The IVA is composed of three central organs: the general assembly, the presidium and the management. The general manager is Volker Koch-Achelspöhler (2012).

The association is a member of the Association of the Chemical Industry .

Guidelines

As a result of the self-presentation, the industrial association is committed to the following guidelines:

In 1991 the association joined the “Responsible Care” initiative. It obliges its members to continuously improve their performance in terms of safety, health and environmental protection . In this context, the initiatives:

  • User protection
  • Storage regulations for retailers and consumers
  • Take-back and disposal of empty packaging
  • Safety data sheets and emergency measures play a special role.

criticism

Chemical pesticides and fertilizers are particularly criticized by environmental protection organizations such as Greenpeace. Greenpeace publishes brochures and buying guides for pesticide-free foods at regular intervals , which examine the pesticide residues in fruit and vegetables and relate them to the acute reference dose (ARfD) and the permitted daily dose (ADI).
