Inez De Florio-Hansen

Inez De Florio-Hansen (* 1943 as Inez Hansen ) is a German foreign language researcher and educationalist . Her research interests are science-oriented teaching and learning in schools and universities. She prepares research results with the help of the MET ( Model of Effective Teaching and Learning ) for teaching practice. One of her focal points is foreign language teaching and learning research, including multilingualism and intercultural discourse skills. In recent times she has devoted herself increasingly to teaching and learning with digital media and to developing critical media skills. Artificial intelligence and robotics are further focal points within the framework of a comprehensive educational concept from pre-school age through primary level to secondary levels I and II.

On the basis of relevant studies, in particular on the fact that adults can only change their personality to a small extent (cf. Gerhard Roth), the author shows the possibilities and limits of so-called advisory literature in a science-oriented non-fiction book. This is the first book publication in the German-speaking area intended for interested laypeople, which clearly criticizes self-help books.

She has also emerged as a literary translator and has translated numerous works by Italian authors as well as screenplays and a Fellini biography into German.

Life

After completing her doctorate in Romance literature (1970) and the state examinations for teaching at grammar schools (1974), she gained extensive experience as a foreign language teacher in various types of schools. This was followed by several years of work as a specialist advisor at the Hessian Ministry of Culture (looking after Italian migrant children, teaching Italian as the native language, further training for Italian teachers). In 1994 she completed her habilitation with an empirical study on vocabulary learning by adult foreign language learners at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

After teaching assignments at the universities of Frankfurt / Main and Gießen, she was offered a professorship at the (then) Erfurt University of Education, where she taught for two years. In 1996 she took up the professorship for foreign language teaching and learning research / intercultural communication at the University of Kassel, where she worked until her retirement. Since then she has devoted herself increasingly to empirical research into teaching and learning processes, teacher training and the creation of teaching materials for English, French and Spanish.

Publications

Inez De Florio-Hansen has commented on all important and innovative aspects of foreign language teaching in school languages in several monographs, edited volumes, as a guest editor or coordinator of relevant specialist journals and in over 150 articles . Since 2014, she has presented a series of monographs in which she critically examines evidence-based teaching. She regards the results of experimental research as an enrichment for teaching and learning processes and advocates science-oriented teaching. However, individual aspects such as the personality of teachers and their learners, their needs and interests and the respective learning context must be sufficiently taken into account. She substantiates these demands in the following publications with examples from lessons:
