InfiNight is a German metal band that was formed in 2001 by singer Martin Klein, guitarist Dominique Raber, guitarist Marco “Grewe” Grewenig, bassist Kai Schmidt and drummer Hendrik “Harry “Reimann was founded.

To date, InfiNight has released three studio albums, an EP, two demos and a music video. In the previous band history there have been no line-up changes at InfiNight. Session musicians were hired on a temporary basis for a few concerts.

Band history

founding

After Marco Grewenig's band Inner-Logic broke up in 2000 , he started a new project with a former bandmate. Various musicians were invited and tried out for this. Among them was Martin Klein, who tried his hand at singing for the first time here. Due to musical differences, the formation broke up after a short time.

During the New Year's Eve party 2000/2001, Martin Marco spoke again about the band project and in spring 2001 they started the first rehearsals together with Kai Schmidt, who was already on bass with Marco's first band Dreamreader . It quickly became apparent that this trio was working and the search for a drummer and a second guitarist began. Andreas Rulloff (End of all Daze, Silver, The Teenage Guide to Popularity) was briefly discussed here, but after a few rehearsals it turned out that the musical ideas were also going in different directions.

After a short time Kai introduced the guitarist Dominique Raber and the drummer Hendrik Reimann. After the first rehearsal together, the cast was determined.

Although the band was originally planned as a pure metal cover band, the permanent line-up began to write their own songs after a short time. At the first concert of the band on December 22, 2001, InfiNight presented six of their own songs. In 2003 the first demo "Demo-Lition" with five songs was recorded. With these and other songs, work began on the first long player.

Since the live qualities of the band became apparent early on, InfiNight often appeared as support for bands such as the German power metal band Freedom Call .

Sea of Knowledge (2004-2010)

InfiNight recorded their first CD "Sea of Knowledge" in 2004 in their own production in the SU2 studio in Sulzbach (Saar) in collaboration with producer Phil Hillen ( Autumnblaze , Cheeno ). "Sea of Knowledge" contains eleven songs and has a playing time of over 54 minutes. The artwork for the album was created by singer Martin Klein. The album was released on May 20, 2005. Among other things, InfiNight was named Newcomer Band of the Year by Radio Leverkusen .

The band played through some band competitions in 2006 and a. also in the final of the Wacken Metal Battle of the Wacken Open Air . Further slots at festivals and as support for bands like Children of Bodom , Powerwolf , Sabaton , Nocturnal Rites , Silent Force etc. followed.

At the end of 2008 the band retired to the rehearsal room to start working on the new album.

Like Puppets (2010-2013)

The second long player "Like Puppets" was recorded in 2009 in the Soundline studio in Saarbrücken.

On this album the band used keyboards for some passages for the first time. The keyboard tracks were composed and recorded in collaboration with our singer and keyboard player friend Oliver Pitsch ( Hellowed ).

The recordings of the album dragged on due to the technology used. After a few months of unsuccessful work on mix and mastering, the decision was finally made to change the studio. The final mix of the album was done in Studio Greywolf in collaboration with friend Charles Greywolf ( Powerwolf ), the mastering was done by Eroc from Erocs Mastering Ranch. Like Puppets was self-released on February 14, 2010. As before, the entire artwork for the album is from singer Martin Klein.

The band has also performed live at various festivals and as support for bands such as Blind Guardian . This is how the label 7us / 7hard became aware of InfiNight.

After some negotiations, "Like Puppets" was re-released through the distribution of 7us. At the agency's request, Martin Klein designed a new cover.

After releasing "Like Puppets", InfiNight returned to songwriting. After two Power Metal albums, there was a desire to try something new. The band's music should be aimed at a wider audience. In particular, shorter songs that are less complex than previous releases should be written.

The Vision (2013-2015)

After a short time, some more catchy songs were created, three of which clearly stand out from the usual InfiNight repertoire. Since it became clear that these songs would not fit on a new InfiNight album due to their rocking character, but the band did not want to leave them unreleased, the plan for an EP release was drawn up.

The three selected songs were supplemented by two short instrumental pieces and thus achieved a total playing time of just over 13 minutes.

"The Vision", the title of the new EP, was recorded and produced in collaboration with producer Michael Schmidt in the SoundPlant Studio in Saarbrücken and released on April 27, 2013 by Metal Promotions. As with the last two albums, the full artwork for the EP is from singer Martin Klein.

The band also decided to use keyboards in the production of “The Vision”. The keyboardist was the singer and keyboarder friend Christopher Krauss, who also works with Dominique Raber in the band Pocket Lint .

For the first time, two short, instrumental interludes were created on the synthesizer for the EP. Under the direction of Martin Klein, both songs were created entirely on the computer and, due to the effects used, form a clear contrast to the other “handmade” material of the band.

The five songs of the EP deal with the topic "5 Stages of Grief" (German: Five stages of grief) according to the Kübler-Ross model known in psychology and each describe a phase of grief. With the EP, the band released a concept work for the first time in their history. However, many critics did not understand InfiNight's intention to make the EP merely a musical excursion into a different style of the metal genre.

For the song “A loss of Love”, the band InfiNight recorded their first official music video in collaboration with an advertising agency. During the recording, video tracks for the title song of the EP, "The Vision", were recorded at the same time. When the production of the actual video was delayed more and more and the completion took longer and longer, the band decided to publish the additionally recorded tracks for “The Vision”. The producer Michael Schmidt, who had already produced the EP, helped. Thus "The Vision" became the band's first official video. The actual recordings for “A loss of Love” have not yet been released.

Apex Predator (2015-present)

On August 15th, 2015 InfiNight released their third longplayer "Apex Predator". As with "The Vision", the recordings were made in the SoundPlant Studio in Saarbrücken in collaboration with producer Michael Schmidt.

"Apex Predator" comprises 11 titles with a total playing time of just over an hour. The keyboard parts contained on the album were taken over, as before, by keyboardist and singer Christopher Krauss, who is friends with the band.

InfiNight has adopted their original style with the album. The band itself calls the style "American power metal with a dash of Bay Area Thrash and a lot of heavy metal". As a specialty, InfiNight recorded the bonus track "Conquer your Heart", which is a pure acoustic ballad and forms the end of the album.

In terms of content, Apex Predator is mainly concerned with the predator who is at the top of the food chain: humans. The concept was also taken up in the booklet of the album designed by Martin Klein. The cover depicts an industrial plant in a barren landscape that reflects the exploitation of nature and its resources. The band poses in a business look with arrogant gestures and "fat" cigars. The photos were taken in collaboration with the photographer Rich Sierra, who put the band in front of the camera for the recordings at various locations in France.

Music genre

music

InfiNight is a mix of power and thrash metal.

The trademark of the band is the singing of the singer Martin Klein. Especially with refrains there are melodic and polyphonic arrangements.

As is often the case in this metal genre, guitar work is in the foreground in addition to singing. Here the band relies on driving riffs as well as melodic, two-part arrangements. InfiNight only uses electric guitars live, but uses both concert and western guitars for CD recordings.

The band's typical stylistic device is the “handbrake”, ie the abrupt change from fast riffs to heavy, mostly melodic sections.

Worth mentioning is the song "The Puppeteer" from the album "Like Puppets", which is so far the only real instrumental piece by the band. Here, too, fast and slow passages alternate and acoustic guitars are used specifically.

Texts

The lyrics of the InfiNight songs come exclusively from the pen of Martin Klein.

The only exception so far is the song "Beyond Reach" from the album "Sea of Knowledge", for which Marco Grewenig provided the storyboard.

The lyrics of the band are partly introspective and mostly social and time critical.

A good example of the latter is the song "Media Serpent" from the album "Like Puppets", which criticizes the way the media controls perception.

In the song "Godforsaken" from the same album, Martin Klein deals with the search for a god in a world that appears to be godless.

The concept EP “The Vision” deals with the topic “5 Stages of Grief” (German: Five Stages of Grief) whereby the two instrumental pieces deal with the themes of anger and depression and the three other songs deal with the themes of not wanting to be true, negotiating and accepting.

Trivia

The band name "InfiNight" was set shortly before the band's first concert. In their search for a suitable name, the band members suggested various English-language terms. Condition: the name must have three syllables so that it can be better called by the audience in chants. When a band member pronounced the English word "infinite" (German: infinite) a little indistinctly, the band liked the supposed play on words so much that they agreed on it.

A herbal aphrodisiac called "Infinight" is widespread in Asia. Comment by the band: "It was always clear to us that InfiNight would also work with women."

The master of the CD "Sea of Knowledge" has a playing time of exactly 54 minutes, 32 seconds and 10 hundredths => 54:32:10

The CD “Like Puppets” contains eleven songs with a playing time (including Easter Egg) of one hour, eleven minutes and eleven seconds. A standard CD player indicates this roughly as follows: “11 - 1:11:11”.

The EP “The Vision” has a playing time of 13 minutes and four seconds (13:04). It was published in April 2013 (04/13).

Martin Klein appeared in a theater version of the Ayreon album “The Human Equation” as the character “Fear”.

On the band's old homepage, each band member was assigned a quote that was supposed to characterize their role in the band, e.g. B. "I still have a new refrain".

Andreas Ruloff later played together with Martin Klein in the rock band “Silver”, which broke up after only two years due to legal disputes. The band name came from the silver-colored cars of all band members.

"Apex Predator" contains eleven songs with a playing time of 61 minutes and one second. A standard CD player indicates this as follows: "11 - 1:01:01". This binary number converted into the decimal system results in 117. On 07/11. the first pre-master of the album was completed.
