An infinity pool ( English for infinity pool ) is a special type of seemingly edgeless swimming pool or reflection pool , one end of which is so lowered that one has the impression that the water disappears into nothingness or into infinity (English infinity ). In fact, the water runs off over the lowered edge of an overflow into an overflow channel located on the outside . This infinity effect is particularly impressive when the water of the basin appears to merge with the water of a sea.

Infinity pools are mainly found in exclusive holiday resorts or private properties. In general, pools with an overflow channel are more expensive to build than pools with a skimmer .
