Reflection pool

A reflection pool is a pool filled with water that is used as a design element to reflect the light from a building so that a mirror image becomes visible. It is widely used at memorial sites. The reflection should create a festive mood. A reflection pool usually consists of a shallow pool of standing water. In order to prevent disturbing waves on the surface, the pool floor is usually not flat, but the water depth in the middle of the pool is less than near the edge.
Well-known reflection pools are located in the following locations:
- the Taj Mahal in Agra , India
- the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, between the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument , in Washington, DC
- the King Center in Atlanta in memory of Martin Luther King
- the Oklahoma City National Memorial , at the site of the bombing
- at the University of Notre Dame , below the mosaic at the Hesburgh Library
- The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles had a reflecting pool in front of the stage from around 1953 to 1972.
- The Völkerschlachtdenkmal in Leipzig.
