The Informationsverbund Buchhandel (IBU) was founded on May 31, 1972 and was originally a service facility of the BAG Buchhandler-Abrechnungs-Gesellschaft mbh . He is currently part of the division of MVB ( Marketing and Publishing Service of the Book Trade GmbH ), a commercial enterprise of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels . The core offering of the IBU is the distribution of bundled, electronic order processes from the retail booksellers.

The IBU takes over the order clearing for the assortment, bundles the order processes of the bookstores and forwards them to the corresponding publishers and bar assortments . Other IBU tasks include the electronic exchange of business data (electronic feedback, electronic delivery notes and electronic yellow enclosures ) and the conversion service ( EANCOM , BWA format , DIBU + ).
