Ingvild Kjerkol (born May 18, 1975 in Stjørdal ) is a Norwegian politician of the Social Democratic Workers' Party (Ap). She has been a member of the Storting since 2013 .

Life

Ingvild Kjerkol is the daughter of Ole Meier Kjerkol (1946-2017), an Arbeiderpartiet politician, psychologist and former rector of the Nord-Trøndelag University of Applied Sciences. She studied psychology and computer science at the Technical and Natural Sciences University of Norway (NTNU). From 2001 to 2002 she worked as an assistant in the health system of Stjørdal Municipality, before working as a French teacher until 2007. Kjerkol was a member of Stjørdal's municipal parliament from 1995 to 2011. In 2003 she also moved into the Fylkesting of what was then the province of Nord-Trøndelag , where she became a member of Fylkesråd , a kind of government of the province, in 2009 . From 2011 to 2013 she was the head of this government.

Kjerkol ran both in the 2005 and 2009 parliamentary elections without obtaining a mandate. Instead, she became a vara representative , a possible successor. In the 2013 election she finally moved into the Norwegian national parliament , the Storting , for the constituency of Nord-Trøndelag . She was re-elected in September 2017. Kjerkol initially worked on the Transport and Communication Committee, before moving to the Health and Welfare Committee in June 2015.

In August 2020 she was elected as the new chairman of the Arbeiderpartiet in Trøndelag in a fighting vote.
