The adjective initial means something like "beginning" or "releasing". It is contained in some compositions such as initial value (initial value), initial ignition and initial explosive .

The noun initial - or initial - denotes the abbreviation of first and last names as well as a decorative first letter, which is used in the work set as the first letter of chapters or sections.

The words derive from the Latin initialialis 'initially' , a formation of initium 'beginning' (see the expression ab initio ). The underlying Latin verb inire ' to begin' literally means ' to go in'. The foreign words initiative and initiation have the same origin .
